Welcome to the Wymondham Music Festival web site. Our aim is to provide you with useful information about the Festival that we hope makes it easier for you to enjoy our events. Don’t forget to ‘bookmark’ this page as one of your favourites - then you can easily visit regularly and keep up to date with the latest news and activities.
In this box you’ll find regular updates on news from the Festival Office, so you can quickly keep up to date.
Festival Fortnight is rapidly approaching; it starts on Saturday 21st June and goes on until Sunday 6 July. Go to our Event Listings section to find out about all the 47 events during that time. They’re not all arranged by the Festival committee - many are organised by other local groups, societies or individuals. We’ve even included a few that aren’t strictly musical -guided town walks, for example. But it all adds up to a very varied two weeks of activities, which go to prove that Wymondham is an exciting and dynamic place to be.
For details of the WMF organised events, go to the Event Details page. For ticketed events, we advise getting your tickets early. Buy them before the day of the concert and you get a £1 per ticket discount. Tickets are selling really fast - we’d hate you to loose out. So, ‘Buy ‘em early’ is the mantra!
News Page - we’ve now got a page devoted to the latest news. Not surprisingly we’ve called the page “News”. Click on the tab on the left or here to find out the latest from the Festival Office.
Tickets - we’ve got some new arrangements for tickets this year. Find out where to get them, discover about our discount scheme and get all the details on our stunning Gold Ticket Package - all on our Tickets page. Click and go!
Festival Programme - it’s bright and colourful and packed with lots of information. That’s the 2008 Wymondham Music Festival programme we’re talking about. If you’re reading this and still haven’t got your own personal copy then we can only guess that you’ve either been on Alpha Centauri for a month or on holiday in Essex.
Either way, you’ll be pleased to know that we’ve still got some left of the 10,000 we printed, but they are going fast. So if you’d like one we’ll happily send you a copy. Drop us an A5 SAE and we’ll do the rest. The details of where to send it are on our Contact Us page.

From May through to July and beyond, there’s a whole summer of music in the lively market town of Wymondham. This year, there are over 70 events listed in the full summer programme.
The highlight is the Festival Fortnight - the core of our festival. For 2008 this runs from Saturday 21 June to Sunday 6 July. During these two weeks there is a huge range of music on offer - the Midsummer Jazz Picnic, daytime and evening concerts, gigs, workshops and lots more for all the family in a varied mix of folk, pop, classical, crossover, world and jazz.
Many events are FREE. For ticketed events the prices are as low as possible with some great discount schemes this year, especially for children.
Our flagship concert for 2008 promises to be a musical treat. World renowned euphonium player David Childs will be bringing his brass quartet to Wymondham Abbey this coming Saturday 21 June at 7:30 pm. With David’s reputation as a virtuoso performer of the very highest calibre, the concert promises to be a musical spectacular - it should bring tears to the eyes, tingles to the toes and be an occasion to talk about for years to come!
Tickets are priced at £12 (and only £2 for children); these prices apply for tickets bought on the door. If you buy before the day of the concert, then a £1 discount will apply. You can get tickets from The Book Fountain in Wharton’s Court, Wymondham or from the Festival Office - ring 01953 601939.
The David Childs Quartet has a unique combination of instruments - trumpet/cornet, flugel horn, french horn and euphonium/trombone. Their widely varied programme will feature a mix of classical transcriptions, arrangements from David’s sister Lisa and awesome solo showpieces from David.
The Childs family name has been synonymous with the euphonium for two generations. Father Robert has been a leader in the brass world for 30 years and David has become one of the world’s finest brass soloists. In 2000 he was the first ever euphonium soloist to win the BBC Young Musician of the Year, and has continued to wow audiences with his astonishing technique, extrovert musicality and engaging stage presence. For those not familiar with a euphonium, it’s the smaller brother of the tuba. It’s one of the most sweet-toned of the brass instrument family and, in expert hands, has an amazing four octave range.
The band members are Lisa Childs - Cornet, Oliver Fitzgerald-Lombard - French Horn, Joanne Deane - Flugel Horn and David Childs - Euphonium.
“Incredible Playing! Bravo, Bravo Bravissimo!!!" Christian Lindberg
“a charismatic advocate of the euphonium, a demonstration of versatility and extrovert musicality”. The Guardian
